Hi, I just posted for the first time. It was a question ("Displaying an image in a subpanel") that I put in the "Java in General (beginner)" category since I'm a Java beginner, but now I'm wondering if it would have been better in the intermediate category or even the Swing category. I know posting in multiple areas is discouraged, so how would I go about moving a question from one place to another? I know it's still early, but I may want to do this if possible in the future.

Thanks!

Welcome to JavaRanch.

Only moderators can move posts (and will generally do so even without being alerted if they think that a particular post has a better chance of getting replies in a different forum). But if you take a moment to read through the lists of forums, you should get a feel of what might go where. Plus, the need to move posts should diminish over time as you get to know the various forums we have.

I have moved your post to the AWT/Swing forum.

If, in the future, you find yourself wanting to move something after it's been posted, probably the best way to accompish that is to add a post to the original thread along the lines of "hey, now that I think of it, this topic probably should have been in forum X. Could a moderator please move it there?". Or something like that.

O.K., thanks guys!

Although... I see the post in both places right now? And not a reply in either yet!

A post is locked after it has been moved to another forum, hence doesn't accept replies. You should only check in the new location.

Ah, I see now. I had missed the "This topic has been moved..." message in big font because I think my brain interpreted it as an ad banner and automatically ignored it!

Oh, sure, you could do that. Or you could eat some pie. While reading this tiny ad:
