How come we can have tooltip for a table cell, when we take a mouse over a table cell & do not click on it.

I think for this purpose you will have to apply MouseMotionListener on your jtable class. It means when mouse pass on from the table it show the JToolTipText() in it.
I think you understand my point of view.
Do it try - i think it may be possible.
