Not a much impressive list I know but then that's all I could do in the eight months I spent in my company. However, I am dissatisfied with quality of work and also the growth prospects. Is there any chance of finding a better job(read as development/ code maintenance which requires brains) in a good company any where in the world with the Java Profile I carry?

I have also trained two batches on SCJP and SCWCD and received Very good and excellent feedback.

I really don't know how to go for applying for new jobs. I mean, on the net, there are a few jobs for 0-1 year with a good company.

You suggestions (even referrals) would be really appreciated.

Thanks

At this experience level, it'll be difficult for you to move out. Try to apply for job postings within company, network with people to explore interesting opportunities within company. You can also seek transfer to to different location withing company to increase your chances e.g. Pune location of your company and other services companies are BFSI domain centric where you can get some interesting opportunities.

1. Promote yourself as a well-balanced candidate on your resume.

2. Try find avenues to stand-out from someone who has done exactly samething as you. e.g. Contributing to opensource projects, self-taught projects using sought-after technologies, extra curricular activities, etc.

3. As suggested before, network with like minded professionals.

4. Have atleast some familiarity with sought-after technologies/frameworks.

5. Spend some time and if required professional help to get your resume right. This is your marketing document.

Soniya,
Why do you think your profile not impressive!..its brilliant and outstanding considering your experience (just 8 months  !!!)
I think you need start from here -post your resume on different job websites. I know it would be difficult to get a call as you have very less exp but keep trying!
- face few interviews, you will get an idea what are the company expectations from you.
- as well as you can feel/or ask about what type of work you are going to get!
- Do the research about the company, ask your frnds, find out whether its product devlopment or service - based company. Work culture is little different in these 2 types of company (on "general" ground!! not related to specific scenario)

rest of suggestions are good to follow as given by Sunit and Arul! I feel Networking is most imp and useful!!

All the best!

For good job :
1)Learn network programming in Java
2)Learn Concurrency stuffs
3)Improve your soft sklls as Big brother said.

Or

Learn Network programming,Windows Programming,Kernel programming and
Real time application programming in c/c++.

The famous maxim : C++ is most powerful language in the planet.

Hello All,

Thanks for all your suggestions. Well, I am trying networking in my company. Right now there are loads of freshers on bench so it isn't before November (i.e. the month in which i'll get confirmed) that I can switch for a job internally.

Well, I've been working with JAVA for quite some time now. I was just wondering if I should really be switching back to C++. I mean, c and c++ are the fundamentals but then I don't understand how they'll help because I haven't been exposed to big scale projects yet.

For networking in Java, I am learning EJB 3.0 and I think for it I'll also need to look through JNDI, JDBC, RMI, etc. Will this help?

Thanks again every one

If you want to do networking in Java how about writing Network application
without using RMI.You can play with Java IO and threads. All I want to tell
you is you have to be hardcore programmer.

you can do project such as p2p network, spiders, bots to encourage yourself.

I recommended you c++ because I thought you have good programming knowledge
it it but as you said it's only fundamental then forget it.C++ is big thing:
the person who program in c++ don't have time for other stuffs because C++ is most powerful and surprising language in the planet.(I don't like it because I don't surprises )

If you want to do networking(Cisco kind of stuff),c++ is best programming language for that game.

Other members can tell you more about Java.

best regards,
omi
