hi,
I have made menuitems such as New, Open, Save etc in Java using JMenuitems. I want excel files to get opened in java. I have tried to open excel files in JFrames in whcih i have implemented Internal frame listeners but those excel files show all junk values.
how to open other application files in Java?

Hi Dubey,
Since Excel files are binary your first objective is to find the format and write a translator to ASCII for it. I am not even sure that Microsoft has even published its format anywhere as it might be proprietary (and probably patented!).
The easiest approach, of course, is to have Excel output the ASCII for you and then read that in your java program. This is what my company does when people want to transfer files between company programs and Excel.

If you are looking at just getting the data out, do a search in the JDBC forum for Excel and you will get numerous posts on the topic.
