How is Swing Performance on Unix/Linux Compared to Windows?

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
I do not have a unix/linux/mac OS X computer, so i have never been able to try Java's Swing on those platforms. I have used it on windows, and for the most part, the performance is not great (although jEdit is in Swing and has very good performance - but I do have alot of RAM)
So for everyone out there who uses Swing on Linux/Unix, please tell me, is the performance good? How is it compared to other GUI products? I am wondering, because IF it is good, then the poor performance of Swing that I always hear about is due to the implementation on Windows (or possibly windows itself). But I want to know if Swing just is not viable at all, or if it is on certain platforms.

From my own experience, the performance of my SWING App on Linux is much better than on Windows NT(Same Machine, Different OS)

from what I experienced, part of the performance of swing depends on implementation of the gui, part of it on the jvm, where the jvm on windows is said to be _better_ than the one on linux. In 1.4, Swing performance is much better than in 1.3 (on any os that runs both).
there are lots of articles on how to improve performance in swing uis. one tip, for example, is to use a hashmap as backing store of a table model etc.
cheers
