My company has a GUI java application which uses Swing/AWT and Ice
(html browser) extensively.
We use a JLayeredPane for the layout of all our various UI functions
and are contantly adding and removing components from the pane.
We only add and remove components using SwingUtilities.invokeLater()
and always valdiate/invalidate our pane before and after changing the
panel.
For some reason Win95/98 machines crash intermittently (1/200 times)
while Win2000/NT boxes never seem to crash.
By "crash" I mean a full system freeze and not just a program freeze.
We cannot release our program without sorting out this error.
Has anyone come across the above situation or does anyone know of
anything we should try to resolve this?

Since it runs fine on Windows 2000 and NT, but crashes on Windows 95 and 98, I would look in the Java Bug Database. It sounds like a JVM or OS issue to me... Are the versions of Java on all the machines the same? Are the machines the same except for the OS? There are lots of things that could be messing up...

Well, we know you don't work for Microsoft.

In my company, we just stopped supporting Win95.
Note that Micro$oft stopped supporting 95 a while ago.
Try that. It feels nice.
