Can anyone recommend a good book to help me build a client/server application. I am planning to use swing so if you know a good swing book that might help me and preferably one that builds real applications as the examples please let me know
Thanks

Amy,
I learned Swing programming by using the tutorial available at Sun.Swing Tutorial
There is an example which is very helpful in learning. Once you are done with the example, you can get valuable help from this forum.
Good Luck.

Hi,
I started with first volume of Core Java by Cay S Horstmann and then moved to Graphic Java Volume II by David Geary. You may also follow the same sequence. While Core Java is sufficient to write Swing GUI but Graphic Java book teaches you everything from MVC architecture to Pluggable Look and Feel with a detailed study of all swing components.

Here are some more.
Swing 2nd ed. by Matthew Robinson and Pavel Vorobiev. (I like their explainations).
Core JFC by Kim Topley
Core Swing Advanced Programming by Kim Topley
Java Swing from O'Reilly Press

Reading the demo programs of the Java Tutorial is quite useful.
You can also check Swing by Robinson and Vorobiev before buying it.
