Hi there. I am trying to create several small GIFs and add them to a JPanel, alongside the name of a map feature, to represent what the features will appear like in a map, i.e. create a map legend with the name of the feature, a tick box to turn the layer on and off, and a gif to show a slight portion of the feature as it would appear in the map. For example, if a river feature is represented as a blue line in a map, then I want a gif showing a small blue line segment to represent that feature in the map legend. I know this is an obscure kind of question but I am really a little stumped here. Basically if anyone knows of some code for generating basic gifs depicting different coloured dots to represent points on the map, or different coloured line segments to represent line features on the map. I would also like to be able to alter the size of the points and thickness of the lines if possible. Thnks for taking the time to read this....Joe

This should be enough to get you started. Just drag the mouse on the panel to frame the image you want to save and press the button. j2se 1.4 doesn't have a .gif writer but it does well with .pngs.

I did a search on google with "gif and png images". Here's an article that was returned among the results.
