softSCJD: Interactive guide to SCJD

1. Tutorial on creating and using Swing components. There will be example codes assisting the tutotial. The sample code in this section also shows simple Swing components that read and display data from binary files.
2. Tutorial on creating and using binary files. In this tutorial we provide step by step implementation of the code to create binary file required in our sample application: Hotel Reservation application.
3. Sample application (Hotel reservation application) requirement.
4. The sample application requirement is similar to the new SCJD assignment, with a few differences to ensure that the sample application code can't be used as is in the new SCJD assignment.
5. Application design and implementation document. This document provides the following information:

5.3 Alternatives considered in designing
5.4 Implementation of sample application
Note: In 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 the client, data client, server and database design, implementation and issues have been addressed separately for clarity and easy of understanding.
6. UserDoc.txt. This text file provides documentation for using the sample application
7. README.txt. This text file provides documentation on running the sample application
8. The sample application doesn't use HTTP server or anything that is not allowed in the new SCJD assignment
9. Choices.txt. This text file provides the application design.
10. Java Coding Guidelines have been followed in writing the code for sample application
11. The GUI design guidelines have been followed to some extent only.
12. The implementation of design patterns in the sample application has been covered in the Application design and implementation document.
13. Explanation on following topics have been covered in the Application design and implementation document: Exception Handling, Searching, Locking mechanism, etc. Wherever possible we have explained what are the alternatives considered and why they were not used in the sample application.
