The book doesn't specifically cover the Rich Client Platform (RCP). The aim of the book was to focus solely on SWT and JFace for building standalone applications, and to be Eclipse-agnostic. In that vein, it doesn't specifically address Eclipse plug-ins, either.

SWT has clearly demarcated boundary lines, so sticking to strict SWT was a simple task. The lines between JFace and Eclipse/RCP are not so clearly drawn, so that was a more difficult path to navigate. The rule of thumb we followed was to cover those packages with "jface" in the name.

As you hinted at, however, you can use the information in The Definitive Guide to SWT and JFace to build Eclipse plug-ins and RCP apps, though you'll want to supplement it with RCP or plugin specific information.
