Sun finally realized that there are just some things that have to be native to attract developers and announced JDIC.

How do you think this will affect SWT? Personally, I think that a lot of the negative about SWT is the native bindings because of needing to distribute os specific libraries (dll's, so's) with your app. But as more Swing developers get interested in the JDIC they are going to realize the power of certain native bindings thus making them reconsider SWT.

Do you have any thoughts/concerns/exitement about this?

JDIC is an interesting response to SWT's desktop integration classes (e.g. Browser or Program), especially when one considers Sun's Java Desktop. Java on the desktop is truly enjoying a (well-deserved) renaissance.

Will it drive Swing developers to SWT? Probably not--it will likely spawn more "See, we can do it, too" responses. It will be interesting, however, to see whether developers jump on this, or if it just dies on the (Swinging) vine.
