Is this book driven by examples? In other words, does it focus more on text describing each concept, sample code demonstrating each concept, or a nice combination of both?

Also, is Eclipse the required IDE when using this book? I'm a little partial to NetBeans at the moment.

Thanks,

Frank

The following is extracted from the TOC of the book

Chapter 2 Getting Started with Eclipse . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7
Installing Eclipse . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .8
Creating Your First Program . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .10
Including the SWT Libraries . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .18
Getting Help . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .22
Alternatives to Eclipse . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .23
Summary . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .25

From above we can see that we can use other IDEs to develop SWT applications... "Alternatives to Eclipse" section will discuss about the thing that you want to know... Don't be discouraged... I am also getting used to JBuilder more than Eclipse... I think it is not a big deal, if we are familiar with one IDE, then we can adapt to another one with a considerable studying time..

As far as I read in the chapter-3 of the book, the book is driven by examples... The sample chapter-3 teaches us how to start "Hello, World" in SWT and the chapter discusses the code in details... Line by line... So I do believe that this book is not a conceptual book... It is a practical book...
