In chapter 6 on Events do we find out why the java.awt.events package wasn't used and why SWT needed a rewritten events set of classes? If not, can you tell me why?

No, just to wear me out

The book doesn't go into that, and I can only speculate why. The reason that seems most logical to me is that it wouldn't make sense to create an AWT dependency, along with concurrent compatibility issues, in SWT. By owning the event classes, SWT can manage what it needs from the events it generates.
