I just would like to know if it includes a CD, which may contain codes from the book, PDF version of the book or some other cool things...

But another book(SCWCD Exam Study Kit Second Edition) by Matthew Scarpino will come with a CD...

Thanks...

swt in action does'nt talk about anything like that. And as you can see source code is anyways available and manning allows you to download the pdf if you buy the book from them.

Is it? I think we need to pay for PDF, if we want to download them, of course with a lower price than hard copy... I don't think the hard copy owner can download PDF freely...

Like i said 'if you buy the hard copy from manning', the pdf is available for free along with the hard copy.If you just want to own the pdf, you pay approx half of the hard copy price.

I am not sure the info provided is quite correct. I am the owner of some Manning books but I haven't see anywhere the option to download also the electronic format. Hmmm... must check with the editor.

You are right, Ali... I also have many books published by Manning... I didn't even know about the fact that I can download the PDF version of the book freely...

So, Matt, do you confirm that we can download the PDF vesion of the book freely, if we possess the hard copy? Thanks...

Pretty easy to verify actually. Go to www.manning.com and order a hard copy of a book.

Manning may have been willing to offer free downloads with hardcover purchases in the past, but I'm afraid this is no longer the case. The PDF download isn't free under any circumstances.

MEAP E+P

"MEAP E+P - If you are traditional and like paper, choose the MEAP E+P package, which includes individual PDF chapters and the complete ebook as above, plus a copy of the printed book, straight off the presses, shipped to you"

It looks like it's time to clarify Manning's ebook-pbook deal. Sorry to do this in a technical forum, but you asked. If you are not interested, please skip this!

Note, this explanation below is for domestic sales. It's slightly different for foreign sales.

Two months ago Manning installed a new shopping cart. Since then, if you buy a print edition, you get the ebook for free (of the same title). We never did that before. If you go into the shopping cart and order a printed book, you'll see a free ebook pop up automatically. It's up to you if you want to download it.

If you want to save money and just want the ebook, it will cost you about half of the print edition. But, if you love the ebook and decide later that you can't live without that print edition, you can apply the price of the ebook toward the price of the printed book (of the same title). Again, you will get both editions for the price of the printed book. At this time, only Manning sells our ebooks and you can only get these ebook deals at Manning's website.

And about CDs: the only books Maning produces with CDs are the Exam Study Kits. They hold a lot of useful stuff relating to the exams. All our other books have their source code and errrata posted online. We've found we can update things that way and you don't wind up with an out of date, useless CD.

OK, back to your regularly scheduled technical discussion... And if you are really lucky, you may even win a copy of SWT/JFace in Action this week!

Hi Helen,
I'm not quite clear with the bolded words. Even if the topic we are discussing might not be eligible for the SWT/JFace in Action book promotion, I just really want to know the exact process, which will definitely benefit in the future for those, who love Manning's book.

So if a reader bought the ebook edition first, then want to buy the print edition later, does he need to pay the full price of the print edition book associated with the ebook that he/she already possesses? He/She already has the ebook, hence he might not need the ebook coming along with the print edition anymore. I just would like to know if Manning has a special price for those who already owned ebook edition and wants to buy the print edition...

Thank you very much, Helen for your great info...

Quite the opposite Ko Ko. You will have to pay only the difference ;-). Many thanks Helen! I haven't known about this option.
