Yes.
All of the 'light bulb' code is managed by the UBB software we use. I believe the on/off state is managed by JS, but you'd need to check.

I need to ask again: are you writing code to watch the site? We do provide an RSS feed and this is preferred. (although it appears to be turned off at the moment) If you write code to watch the site and it shows up as hitting the site too often, we block your IP. This is why we prefer the RSS solution.

Seems to work fine for me. Are you noticing anything out of the ordinary?

I noticed that search seemed to be missing my most recent posts. I restarted the server and it now seems to have picked them up again and is functioning normally. Whatever the original cause, the RSS feed was probably in the same boat (since it reads data from the same source).
