Hi, I'm making a fractal generator. It's pretty much complete, but I'd like to have a 'Button' which when pressed, then drops down a JTextField, so that I can enter the number of iterations required.

I know how to use Buttons and JTextFields, but not dropdown menus.
But in this case I only want ONE item (the JTextField) to be shown, for the user to input the number.

Any ideas??
Thanks.

You could use a JOptionPane 'showInputDialog', a JDialog or maybe a JPopupMenu. If you already know the probable range of numbers you can accept you could offer them in a JComboBox or a JSpinner. The Swing turorial has examples showing how to use most of these.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
