JDialog not showing components  RSS feed

I have a JDialog that contains 2 JPanels. However when I create the JDialog
and add the panels to the container it looks empty. If I pack the JDialog at the end I see the components but the size is very small. Very frustrating!

Is there anything in the panels? pack will reduce panels to an appropriate size, which would be about zero if no components are added to it.
