How can I add another text box under this layout?

Hi
I'm using a border layout for the whole GUI (while using grid layouts for some of the parts as you can see), but I'd like to know how I could add another text box under the buttons labelled North, South, East, West. I've already assigned this menu to 'South' in the border Layout.



I'd just like to know the best way of doing this. (The South pane with the N,S,E,W buttons is a border layout too).

You must have had

south.add(northButton, BorderLayout.NORTH);
south.add(souththButton, BorderLayout.SOUTH);
south.add(westButton, BorderLayout.WEST);
south.add(eastButton, BorderLayout.EAST);

Instead

JPanel southCenter = new JPanel(new BorderLayout());
southCenter.add(northButton, BorderLayout.NORTH);
southCenter.add(souththButton, BorderLayout.SOUTH);
southCenter.add(westButton, BorderLayout.WEST);
southCenter.add(eastButton, BorderLayout.EAST);
south.add(southCenter, BorderLayout.CENTER);
south.add(new JTextField(), BorderLayout.SOUTH);

As mentioned bfore Have multiple JPanels and you can use different layout managers in your each JPanel. This approach gives you more flexibility.

Hi, I sort of have that working, can someone help me make a menu bar above the layout though? I'm not having any luck, I;ve initialised the menu options but have nothing...
