If you want to create good-looking Swing GUIs then below book

For internal architecture (MVC, MVP, V-PM) & JGoodies Layout
read Scott Delap's book.

I acutally like The Art of Java for some good example applications and applets that use Swing. It's a good book, that gets good reviews:

The Art of Java by Herbert Schildt

Another solid book from those red people is Professional Java Interfaces, which was released in 2005, making it one of the newer books on the market:

Professional Java Native Interfaces with SWT/JFace (Programmer to Programmer) by Jackwind Li Guojie

There is also the Definitive Guide to Swing, which doesn't get great reviews, but it is now in its third edition, which implies improvement over the previous two:

The Definitive Guide to Java Swing, Third Edition by John Zukowski

Happy Swing!
