what should be used to provide features like editiing

text and images on the same component using Java.
example : Microsoft Word

editing implies deletion and insertion of images,deletion and insertion of text and other operations.

I would start with a JTextPane and StyledDocument. You can use a JFileChooser to allow the user to select image files and load them with the ImageIO class read methods. The Java tutorial has examples of using both of these components:
