How to make an image a component for JScrollPane ?

I'm trying to make an applet that uses screenshots of documents instead of loading the pdf or doc files. Is there a way to make an image a component? I'm never worked with images in Java, let alone applets. Here is the code I'm working with, if it helps..

You can put an image inside a JButton.

There seems to be nothing applet-specific in this problem, so I'm moving the thread to the AWT/Swing/GUI forum.
