How do I collapse the border lines into a single line?

I don't understand 'border lines'

if you mean all the tabs on one line,
tabbedPane.setTabLayoutPolicy(JTabbedPane.SCROLL_TAB_LAYOUT);

This image shows a similar concept, except that the outer tabs is on the right side.



If you look at my screenshot, I'd like to eliminate the multiple lines on the left/right/bottom.

see if this gets you any closer

you may need to tweak 'paintContentBorderTopEdge' if you want them the same width
