i am working on java mail client project,currently i am trying to get root directories like our colons C,D..etc.and the files and folders included in it for attachment option..,i don't know how to retrieve information about this things.. so please help me out... its urgent...

Read the File and JFileChooser API.
You will find all the methods you require.

I was going to say that this isn't a Swing/AWT/SWT question, but apparently Mr. Godbole would disagree. Anyway, take a look at File.listRoots()

Well she did talk about listing the roots and figuring out the folder structure. So JFileChooser popped to my mind.
