I need to develop a frame that will have some components that can be selected. Say some component, that the user will select and do some operation.

Something like a table row, that can be selected. I need components that can be selected like this.

I need to create a chassis view component. In such a case i will have a component that will represent a network card and some components withint that card. Now when using i should be able to select the card or the specific component within it. Whatever element it is, the selection should be visible in the frame... ie if i select a n/w card, the card should be displayed as being selected, or if i select a component within the card, the component should be displayed as selected(not the entire card)...
I needed some idea as to how to develop these components that can be shown as selected(if done so) graphically

Dont think table will help you in this scenario, though a tree table will, but then that will complicate things too much.
I suggest you go for the JTree as it is most suited to show the parent child/nested heirarchy you require.
Once any node is selected, you can pull out/display the relevant data you require.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
