Hi..
I'm new to this servlets.I would really appreciate if any body can show some light about the things that i have to get before starting to work on this.I'm having a Unix box (Free BSD).I tried to install java web server in it (was not able to )tried to install JSDK 2.1 but when i unzip it some directries are empty in that.I'm running apache web server on that machine.
Please let me know what are the things that i have to grab before starting to work on it.I'm getting tired of installing all the things avaiable on the web. Thanks in advance

All you really need is a working recent JDK and a copy of JSDK 2.1 to get started. Don't worry about integration with Apache to start with, just use the small servlet server that comes with JSDK 2.1 while you learn about servlets.
Do make sure that you configure it for a port which isn't used by Apache (eg 8080 rather than 80).
Once you have tried out your servlets using the JSDK server, I recommend getting Apache Jserv. It's easily the best companion to Apache for serving servlets and has recently reached version 1.0. The only down side is that it requires a fair amount of configuration, like Apache itself. See http://java.apache.org/
If you have any more specific problems, please ask them here.
