cant compile a servlet

im getting the compile time errors
1.package javax.servlet not found in import
2.super class generic servlet not found
pleae help with this beginner`s problem

You need to have the file "servlet.jar " (or "jsdk.jar" for older versions of the servlet API) in your classpath. If you are using Java 2, just put the jar file in the lib/ext directory of your java installation. If you are using Java 1.1, you will need to add it to your CLASSPATH variable.
