1.Is there Applet-JSP communication other than <jsp lugin>?
2.When I down loaded the JSP example filed I received .war files.
What is the .war files?

It .war file is a web archive file. But I am not sure how and when it is used.

A .war file is a jar (Java Archive) file, but containing information structured for deployment on any servlet container implementing version 2.2 or later of the servlet API. Look up the servlet API documentation on Sun's web site for more details.
