I am reviewing a project that is in it's infancy and have been given a choice on which scripting language to use. I have reviewed JSP and PHP to an extent and PHP as far as I can tell blows JSP away based on speed alone. Beta 5 of Tomcat 3.2 running on a linux server produced about 13 pages per second. PHP on the same Linux server around 47 pages per second.
I was wondering if anyone has had experience with both PHP and JSP and would be willing to comment on which dynamic scripting language they preferred and why.
Thank you.

I'm a Java programmer by profession who uses JSP everyday. I have however used PHP quite a bit too and can tell you that developing most stuff in PHP is by far faster than in JSP. From my experience it is faster and requires much less server overhead.
PHP rules!
