Yes. I have yet not succeeded in opening a filedialogbox from an applet and as per security restrictions it is not possible. How can I transfer a file from client's machine to my servlet. RMI is not possible as IE does not support it. Any idea?

This sounds like a situation where an HTML page would be a better user interface. The HTML <form> can have a field which allows the user to select a file from the local file system for upload to the server. See example 17 at http://www.servlets.com/jsp/examples/ch04/index.html
