Difference b'n JSP custom tags and XML

Can anybody tell me the difference b'n JSP custom tags and XML in terms of
1)performance
2)Scalability
3)which is easy to use and why

Can you be more specific or give an example of the same thing done with XML and with JSP custom tags?
