Hi Sunil,
Answer to some of your questions:
1) No, knowledge of servlets is not essential to being JSP. What you need to know is Java and HTML.
2) Install JRun from www.allaire.com. That is a good engine.
3) No idea.
4) JSP's tutorial at Sun's site.
5) Professional Java Server Programming is a good book, but that's for advanced learning. I haven't tried O'reilly book, but have read Core JSP by Damon Hougland and Aaron Tavistock, which is OK for beginners.

1. It would be *good* if you have knowledge of servlets atleast basic such as life cycle of servlets, class hierarchy of servlets, working of servlets, methods of servlet classes, which one is invoked at what point of time.
2. Tomcat is the best for JSP
3. Try jsinsider.com and sun's site.
4. If you are beginner, Pure JSP book is available in India (i am not sure of other places). It is good for beginners. After reading this book and then reading from Prof JSP you will find the 'pure JSP' very preliminary.

I will say "Web Development with JavaServerPages" by Duane K, Fields is the best jsp book (ISBN 1-884777-99-b)

Hi,
I'm also a beginner in JSP topic. I'm studying from sun's "core servlets and Java server pages" by Marty Hall. It tells you the best of both worlds !
