'm workin on implementin a shopping cart (for a pc store) n 've doubts as how to store the data of the store.....it wud be great if someone cud help me with this:
'm tryin to implement the application in such a way that it reads from a flat file to get information on the products n their prices (to avoid usin a database n thereby the database connectivity concept)......'mn't sure as how to implement this........wud appreciate if someone gives an idea as how to proceed....

Give in and learn some JDBC.
1)Its not that hard
If you can understand JAVA, SQL is cake.
2)Its better for the application in the long run
The DB is certainly going to be more flexible and extensible than using a flat file. How are you going to add more products? Remove them?
3)Its better for you
JDBC is one of the most widely used APIs. Certainly can't hurt to have it on your resume.
There are two open source DB you can use for free: PostgreSQL and MySQL.
There is a nice tutorial for using JSP with MySQL at: http://devshed.com/Server_Side/Jserv/JSP5/
