debugging applets that communicate with servlets in tomcat

Hi, I have a question about debugging applets that communicate with servlets thru tomcat. I put some System.out in the applets, and understandably, they didn't show up (perhaps that applets run outside of tomcat server). So, how can I debug applets that seem to have bugs communicating with servlets in tomcat?
