how to use plugin for applets & beans

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
i hav seen a few plugin examples on this forum.
i hav come across a class id .what is this & how do we generate it.
a browser(netscape or ie) do hav a jre inbuilt so why do we need this jsp lugin. i presume the applet in any case will be loaded similar to what we do with a normal applet in a html page.
has somebody tried throwing a bean to the user via a jsp lugin instead of an applet . if then please post the example on this forum

Although browsers such as Netscape and IE *MAY* have JRE's installed (Microsoft makes Java an optional plug-in these days), the JRE is likely to be a very primitive one, such as the 1.02 release.
Anyone wishing to take advantage of more modern features (such as Swing) has to ensure that a sufficiently advanced JRE is installed on the client system. This is what the class ID is for - to allow the browser to test for the presence of an advanced plug-in and initiate an download/install if it isn't available.
The class ID is not related to the app - it identifies the plug-in, so it's constant for a given plug-in. For more info, see http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/

Tim:
In IE 5.0 is there a way to know what plugin's are
currently loaded into the browser. I know that in NS
we can do this under Help -> "About Plugins"
option.
I tried bring up the IE Help and search, but din't
find anything?
My IE browser says "Loading Applet" but nothing else.
Nothing in the Java Console also.
Any help is appreciated. (Not to mention it runs in NS,
maybe I have the plugin installed )
Thanks
