One has to know HTML as well as Java to do JSPs correctly.
How do you tell a <FORM> what to do when it's submitted? By specifying the resource URL action in the ACTION = "..." attribute. It could be the URL for a CGI script, another JSP or (drum roll...) a Servlet!

Hi
Clicking button is a client-level event, but jsp:forward is server proccessed. And you can't call jsp page by button on the page without sending form (or other request) to your server.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
