I run suse7.2(OS), and i was wondering where to put a prefrence file.....One of my friends has a preference file that i want...well i replace mine with his(in /home/me/.gnu-emacs)....and it does nothing...is there a service that i need to start with emacs to get it to see the new preference file...

Your user preferences are normally stored in ~/.emacs - an invisible file in your home directory. "~" being just the standard shortcut for "/home/me". I don't know if ".gnu-emacs" is looked at, but ".emacs" should be.

I get this message....Error in init file: File error: "Cannot open load file", "completer"
MY preferences are not loading.....do u think the above message is the reason.
