On a street, there are 5 houses, with 5 colors.

Every house lives a person from a different country.

Every person drinks different drinks, smokes different brands of cigarettes, have different pets

The question is: Who have the fish?

1. British lives in the red house.

2. Swedish has a dog.

3. Danish drinks tea.

4. The green house is at the left side of white house.

5. The one who lives in the green house drinks coffee.

6. The one who smokes Pall Mall has a bird.

7. The one that lives in yellow house smokes Dunhill.

8. The one that lives in the house that��s in the middle of the 5, drinks milk.

9. Norwegian lives in the first house.

10. The one who smokes Blends lives at the neighbor of the one who has a cat.

11. The one who has a horse lives at the neighbor of the one who smokes Dunhill.

12. The one who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.

13. German smokes Prince.

14. Norwegian lives in the neighbor of the blue house.

15. The one who smokes Blends as a neighbor who drinks water.





The above is a puzzle given by Einstein at the beginning of last century. He said that 98% of the world population cannot answer the question. Are you one of them?

My fifteen year old daughter figured it out. She's a bright young lady, but I think Einstein's estimate of 2% of the population is wrong. Unless he meant only the people that could look at the problem and figure it out all in their head. That would definitely leave me out!

Yeah, I was just coming to ask about the estimates. I bet I'm not the brightest 2% of population and it took me just about 20 min to figure it out, most of wich I spent highliting clue pairs in Word.

Does anybody know what the time limit is? There must be a time limit if only 2% of the people get it right. I got the right answer but I don't think I would have if this puzzle was given as a pop quiz in college.

Around fourth grade I remember a subject called problem solving. They'd give out sheets with exactly these kinds of problems, among others.

People are smarter than in Einstein's day, and education seems to be better.

Maybe Einstein just made up a riddle, was really proud of it's cleverness, and gave his statement without doing a proper survey. Or maybe he just wanted a lot of people to feel good about themselves... "wow, we're a really smart bunch, arent we?"

Actually Einstein must have solved it in his mind, without using sticky notes or tables.

I, however, needed Microsoft Excel to solve it.
