I have read that and applet is loaded by http but afterwards if the applet wants to communicate with a servlet it must use rmi.
So, if you see in a exam:
What protocol will an applet use to communicate with a servlet?
1.RMI
2.http.
What do you answer?

Actually HTTP is more universal and more likely to get through a firewall. Where in the world did you read that suggestion?

The key word there is "servlet"! Firewalls aside, RMI expects to work with "servers". I don't know offhand if a servlet could be written to handle RMI protocols, but it's more work than I'd want to do - easier to just write a traditional RMI server to do the work.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
