Hi
You could use XML, XSL, Cocoon and your choice of servlet container. I generate an XML file from a database query and associate that file with an XSL file. I then use Cocoon to render the XML file to pdf.
You can look up Cocoon at XML.apache.org/cocoon.

You could set your output (content?) type to "text/plain" or just wrap your output in the HTML between PRE tags (PREformatted text).
Alternately, I would suggest having the reports generate as .DOC or .PDF from Crystal, if that's an option. If you look throug a JDJ or JavaPro issue you can find other Java-only reporting engines that to HTML/DOC/PDF/Excel/Other.
