But the email has been sent. Copy follows: JavaRanch is giving away four copies of the book "Java Servlets Developer's Guide". To qualify for the drawing, participate in our "Servlets" forum! And the best part... The Author, Karl Moss, will be online to answer your questions!
"I started this book with a very basic understanding of Servlets. A good book increases your knowledge of a subject without boring you to tears. This book does that...." Bartender Paul Stevens Thanks to the people at Osborne/McGraw-Hill for the book's! So, Karl, is the book aimed at beginner, intermediate, or guru (who probably wouldn't need the book anyway...)? My biggest question would be whether the book covers JSPs, and if so, does it cover them as a separate topic or are they integrated into the coverage of servlets throughout the book? Is Model 2 MVC discussed?
Amazon link to the book. Only one left while I'm checking. Osborne online has a little more info, including TOC. Looks like I answered my own question - no JSPs.
Wow! Looks like there's lots of goodies in this one. I see that you introduce Apache Tomcat early on in the book. Do you use examples that use Tomcat throughout the book so that the reader can "follow along?" Corey
Read the sample chapters from the author's web site. The sample chapters are on two interesting topic: filters and generating WML. Good read. Seems that this book is not the third edition of Java Servlets(just judging from the title ), and it conveys the author's experience topic by topic.
I'll have to go read those chapters. The other thread on this week's giveaway says this book is a follow-up to the Java Servlets book. Not quite sure if that means it's a re-do or supplemental (like Java in a Nutshell/Java Examples in a Nutshell), but it does look a little more intermediate/advanced than the other.
