With respect to "news articles", you may want to also check out the OCI Java News Brief. (Full disclosure: I am affiliated with OCI).

These are monthly, not daily, so they tend to reference "trends" rather than breaking news. Unlike the tone of many blog entries (which tend to be quick -- including my own), the articles go a bit deeper, often with working examples of the subject.
