I'm just learning Java and have downloaded j2sdk1.4.0_02 and have configured EditPlus to run the javac. However I realize it doesn't recognize the servlet classes. What else do I need to dowload to be able to compile servlets? Thanks for your help...

Download the Reference Implementation (Tomcat) from http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat

After you install tomcat, you'll find servlet.jar in <CATALINA_HOME>/common/lib

Add this jar file to your classpath in EditPlus.

Or, you can also download *just* servlet.jar from java.sun.com, but then how would you run your servlet?

In Editplus:
I've configured a custom user tool. It looks something like:
Menu text: javac servlet
command: D:\jdk131\bin\javac.exe
argument: -classpath .;d:\tomcat404\common\lib\servlet.jar -d ../ $(FileName)
initial directory: $(FileDir)

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
