Hi,
Is there something in the Servlet API that allows me to check the client's connection speed? If it's there, I'm not seeing it..

There's nothing in the servlet api to determine a client's connection speed. You would have to design a servlet that would transfer a fairly large file (e.g. 100k+) and time how long it takes for the client to finish the download to get a ball-park estimate of the current bandwidth for a client.
