Yup .. and it was a service man at the gas station who filled her tank and asked her to pay before he took to the pump away and replaced the gas cap

I wonder what she was thinking when as she was pulling away she heard this loud THUMP as the gas pump was yanked off of its place. Mmmm maybe she was doing her make up and talking on her cell phone at the same time and failed to notice...

my roommate's dad did the same thing a few months ago in his Lexus... he is an architect here in georgia, so he is not completely stupid.
but, instead of driving off, he ran inside and tried to tell the cashier to hit the cut-off switch. they did not speak the same language, so it took a few seconds to get the point across. meanwhile, gas was spraying all over the parking lot. apparently the hose has a quick-release connection near the pump. you would think that they would have a cut-off switch there.
he had to pay around $8,000... it seems that this happens so often that they have a standard fine no matter how much gas comes out.

$8000
Those pumps break automatically if you pull them and pump stops automatically too !

apparently this pump did not turn off immediately. he said it made quite a mess in the parking lot. but the $8000 is a flat fee no matter if gas spills or not (at least here in georgia at the chevron station).
