Hi, I want to understand scalability and I hope I can get some enlightenment here.
I have a web application that uses servlets and writes several temporary files to disk on each http request.
My first question is, is that an unscalable idea to have disk i/o for a web server that is expecting a very high load of traffic? I know that servlets have the power to do a lot, i just don't know what is reasonable for scalability.
I am also merging together some functionality from a COM object and also a servlet, for a single request. Does using so many different technologies lead to scalability problems?
Is there a better way to use some C++ code from a java servlet that is good for scalability??
It is actually teh C++ code that needs to make temp files on disk for each request. If I were to split up my system into several physical layers, then would I use one machine for the web server and servlet, and another machine for the C++ code and disk files? I am not sure how multiple machine farms work.
Thanks, I hope I can get a better understanding of scalability issues.
