If you would be interested in visiting a holy place, to get a nice experience of religious activities, consider visiting Nanjangud. It is 25km from Mysore City, in the state of Karnataka, in southern India.

There are many! India is a large country! But I guess in the category of "must see" you may include Taj Mahal (it is in Agra, near Delhi), any one hill station say Simla, one place on sea beach like Goa or Kovalam.

Hey Jaymin,
When do u intend to travel to India. If its going to be next month then be warned of the impending monsoon that first touches the Southern state of Kerala and then gradually advances northward. Considering this it would be a wise decision to visit places in the North which receives rain much later. If you are of the philosophical type or someone given to the study of life in its diff hues then do not miss Benares also known as Varanasi/Kashi.There is the eternal beauty of the Taj Mahal for the romantic at Agra.....visit this on a Full moon day for the breath taking grandeur of this marvel. Travel all over Rajasthan for a view of the majestic palaces of yore with their intricate carvings and sculptures. I could go on and on but 10 days wouldn't suffice to pack in everything in your itinerary.
WELCOME TO INDIA!
-EB.

Agreed to 100%. 10 days in India is like trying to cover the whole of Europe in a weekend But get ready to feel tropical heat - Especially Rajastan and most of Northern cities (Agra, Delhi etc) will test your limits with a 'mild' 45 degree Celsius temperature.
The best time to Visit India may be between October & February, when winter grips in, ie. temp. comes around 10-20 degrees.
Have a great trip. Enjoy!
Ashok.

Ps:- Eager B, U know how much we love monsoon in Kerala? We just luv to sit indoor and watch it raining for hours and hours... with lightning and thunder.. Mother nature, it its full majesty..

I would suggest Tirupathi(a great temple in India, famous for its devinity), temples in Kanchi(outstanding architecture), Goa and Podicherry for their beaches, all these are some must see in Southern part of India.
If possible try to attend any ones marraige in India.(Nobody ask who you are).
Try to taste different kinds of spicy food.
Must carry different kinds of medicine for different reasons.
keep in mind the nearest police control room number always( I hope it is 100).
Always carry mineral water.
Never keep more than Rs 1000, in your pocket.
Be care with high temparatures. Some times you may find some cheap(cheating) mentalities, but don't blame the country, just blame its high population.
have a nice trip.

Your surname Ramchandrar sounds indian.
Do you have any relation with India?

Anyways 10 days is quite less to see a country like India. If you can tell about the place where you are visiting then I can help you to plan some must see spots nearby.

Agree. And I think even Jaymin knew it by now. It's 6 years since the question was posted, and Jaymin is spending all these years still visiting the places in India

I wonder no one has mentioned Khajuraho, Haridwar, Kashi, Lucknow, Konark temple, Gaya......

but one thing is for sure, one week is too less. I think you should concentrate on one area of India, say South or east or west or north..

Happy Touring.

Do remember to sample all the street food available in India particularly in Old Delhi..they have some of the best. You've been here six years now so you're stomach can probably digest rocks by now. Good luck on your journey. And do recount to us about the difference you notice in Air travel before and after sept 11.

There are a lot of hill stations stretching from the North to the South. You might consider visiting them.
