i think my stepmom's scanner got fried by a lightening the other day. she said she smelled a "wierd" smell in the office after the lightening that night and the compter had restarted.
i went to their house and checked it out... there was a weird smell, but it was not a fried component (resistor, capacitor...) because i know that smell very well.
so, my question is how do scanners work? is the photo-cell filled with gas? did the photo-cell get fried and that is what the strange smell was?
the scanner works fine electronically... the motor still sends the photo-cell back and forth and it still makes all the noises. the only problem is that the image comes out black and the software says that an image was not detected. this is why i came up with the "gas-filled photo-cell" theory.
thanks in advance if anyone knows about scanners.
