Look into _Head First Servlets and JSP_.

Its a great book, and will prep you for the web component exam, also.

Hi Satya,

If you are starting to learn Servlets, and need to set up an Environment,
the following might be good.

1. Web Server - The simplest being Tomcat, it is free to load down.

You can find Tomcat Here

2. Resources - Are plenty on the net. Try googling your problems that come
in your way and you can learn that.

3. Books - As Rob says,
Look into _Head First Servlets and JSP_.

This is a very good book. Also you have some other, but to start,
go with it.

Also the SCWCD stuy guide by Hanumanth Deshmukh and Jignesh Malavia is
good.

4. Have the API as your reference.

5. Of all, the j2sdk/jdk will do.

6. And Editor for Java. I think EditPlus suits fine for me. Give it a try.

7. Above all, keep coming here. That would really help you to learn
the technolog better.

All the very best for you. Happy time with JSPs & Servlets.

A must have is the "core servlets and Java Server Pages" from Marty Hall. You can buy the second edition or download the first edition for free in pdf format at Marty Hall's website http://www.coreservlets.com.

A very good book is the "Apache Tomcat Bible" from Eaves, Jones and Godfrey. You can buy it for only 20USD at amazon.com. It explains how to download and install J2SDK, Tomcat, MySQL, Eclipse, Ant. And it explains the Model-View-Controller design pattern by giving the source code of an example web application. This is one of the best books I bought about servlets and JSP's because it gives a very good overview of how you should build a java web application.
