Do you pay for shareware?

Do I always? No. Have I? Yes. IMHO, the best way for to generate money from a shareware program is to actually provide more features if you register, in order to give you an incentive.

well, i have only downloaded a couple shareware programs... i actually paid for 1 (maybe 2). the others i just tried for a couple days and then deleted them. sort of a trial version, i guess.
like jason said, i think an incentive is necessary to keep people honest in today's world. last night i downloaded an .mp3 to .wav converter for my roommate. it is a $15 shareware program that comes with 34 free conversions before you have to register... he will get hooked on downloading the .mp3's and making audio cds and will eventually have to pay the $15.
my machine does the conversion automatically when i burn a cd, so i do not have to worry about it... but he is not computer smart, so i do not want him screwing around with my machine when i am not home... so he has to get his own converter.

I never pay for anything computer (except books). I don't even own the one I use. There is only one shareware program I have used beyond its expiration (but everyone uses the program I speak of without registering it, so I don't feel bad. The commercial people pay enough anyway).

Well if you are using only illegal copies of commercial software you are a software pirate. That's really just a nice way of saying you are a thief. If you can't afford it, you don't need it. That's just a general statement, not an attack on you btw.
