Hello,

I've been trying to set up a database connection pool for my web applications by creating a JNDI data source in my web.xml. When trying to find some clear documentation on the resource-ref and related tags with details, what I'm finding is either product specific, or too vague/general. I'd like to keep everything contained in the application's web.xml, so that I can deploy to different products if needed.

So, would anyone be able to point me to some good documentation toward this end?

Well, unfortunately that's not really how it works. While it's true that you're able to define resource-refs in your web.xml file, it's not possible to actually define the DataSource itself. That has to be done in a vendor-specific way.

So, you're still going to need to get comfortable with some administrative tasks on whatever server you're using (e.g. setting up a DataSource). After that, go to town with your web.xml file and bring it all together.

So, if I don't access to the server configuration files to create the DataSource, then I will have to get help from someone who does, or else I can't use this method at all?
